From 23rd Oct 2018, electric bushes are in operation in the Kathmandu Valley. This was a joint initiative of Lumbini Development Trust and Sajha Yatayat, the local transport company. The bus service operation is under the South Asia Tourism Infrastructure Development Project supported by Asian Development Bank (ADB). ADB has provided five buses to Lumbini Development Trust and two of them have been brought to Kathmandu to start operation. Sajha Yatayat will handle the management of the buses which are also disabled friendly. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the electric bus service by travelling on the bus from Pulchok-based Sajha Yatayat premises to Singha Durbar. The construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport in Lumbini, part of the ADB Project, would also be completed within the next six months.
