Arrive Negombo and it’s a free day today so you can arrive as per your travel schedule. Meet the group leader at your hotel in the evening for the tour briefing and the paper-works like collecting your insurance details, next of kin information etc. Overnight at Hotel Negombo.
After breakfast, drive towards Dambulla which takes approximately 4.5 hours arriving just after midday. In the afternoon, you can relax at your hotel or take an optional visit to a nearby wildlife reserve. If luck favors then you might spot some old elephants during the jeep safari. Which park to visit depends on the seasons but both Minneriya and Kaudulla are within easy reach of Dambulla. Another option is to visit the nearby Dambulla caves which has some fascinating decorated interiors. Overnight at Hotel in Dambulla.
Early in the morning, visit Sigiriya (30 min approx.) Sigiriya is a ruined fortress atop a hill and one of the Sri Lanka’s premier landmarks. From it’s top one can witness astounding views. Sturdy footwear is advised to wear as it is a very steep climb with some uneven slopes. Those who aren’t climbing up can explore the gardens at the base of the rock and still get some great shots of the fortress from below. Then return to hotel for breakfast and head towards Kandy (3 hrs approx.) You can stop at one of the region’s wonderful spice garden for lunch en-route. In Kandy, visit the Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the tooth) which is Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist temple. In the evening, enjoy performance of the famed Kandyan dancers, drummers and fire-walkers. Overnight at Hotel in Kandy.
Today is free to explore Kandy. The royal cit of Kandy is surrounded by lush green hilly countryside. There are picturesque lake, old shops, bustling market area and some great restaurants. One the capital of the last Sri Lankan king, Kandy managed to resist European control for hundreds of years. You can walk through the town, explore the bazaar or the citadel or take a nature walk at Udawattakele Sanctuary, closer to Kandy, where birds, monkeys, flowers can be spotted at 160 acres of tropical rainforest. Besides, a day trip to Nuwara Eliya along windy roads lined by green slopes of tea leaves is also possible. Built during 19th century, it’s the British hill station and heart of the tea growing industry which is full of colonial charm, normally expected to find in an English country village. Today head towards south to Unawatuna (6 hrs approx). Unawatuna has some great beaches with plenty of local restaurants and bars. Today no activities are included so you are free to explore around. Perhaps take a walk to the monkey-filled mangrove forest of Galle-Matara road or unwind at the beach. Overnight at Hotel in Unawatuna.
Chill out the Sri Lankan way; sleep, relax on the beach, grab a cocktail at the beachside restaurant. Today is also a good opportunity to visit nearby Galle which has memorable collection of Dutch-colonial buildings with boutique shops and cafes. Walk around the Galle fort and sip an icy ginger drink in a café, head towards the beach for some more relaxing. Overnight at Hotel in Unawatuna.
Today take a train bound for Colombo (4 hrs approx). Upon arrival, join with your guide for the city walk; also a good time for last minute shopping. Then return to hotel. Evening: Farewell Dinner. Overnight at Hotel in Colombo.
