Embark on the captivating Druk Path Trek, a premier short trekking experience in the enchanting land of Bhutan. This trail traces the footsteps of an ancient trading route, high mountain passes and picturesque valleys of Paro and Thimphu during Bhutan tour. Commencing amidst the charm of apple orchards and dense pine forests, the journey unfolds with a stroll past the remnants of Jele Dzong. Which, a fortress perched on a lofty grassy ridge, offering mesmerizing vistas of Mount Jumolhari to the north.

Over the next four days, the adventure takes us above the tree line, guiding us through a series of passes, including the lofty Phume La at 4210 meters. Along the way, we encounter pristine mountain lakes, stumble upon the nomadic camps of yak herders, and revel in awe-inspiring Himalayan panoramas of Bhutan. Notable peaks such as Mount Jumolhari, Jichu Drake, and Gangkar Puensum grace the horizon, painting a spectacular backdrop to our trek.

The grand finale of our expedition entails a descent through fragrant pine and juniper forests, leading us to the Phadjoding monastery. This serene path ultimately delivers us to Thimphu. And, this is a vibrant capital city of Bhutan, concluding our journey with a blend of natural wonders and cultural discoveries.

Tour Details

Druk Path Trek is one of the popular treks in Bhutan which starts from Paro and ends at Thimphu. Trekking along the way, one can witness spectacular snow capped mountains view, hike through lush green valleys, pristine forest spotting wildlife and passing along temples and monasteries. Observe the daily lives of the Bhutanese people as you trek along. Druk Path Trek is a camping trek that goes thru less frequented areas in Bhutan. The tour begins with flight into the Paro and on the second day start the trek from Paro hiking all the way to Thimphu crossing the chain of mountains that separates the two valleys.

The trekking trial has fewer settlements, beautiful lakes teeming with fish and it’s beautiful rhododendron forests which bloom in May. Panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains can be spotted in a clear weather during late autumn and winter. On the last day of Druk Path Trek, the trail finally reaches the lush valley of Thimphu. After spending another day in Thimphu, drive back to Paro, go for the ever popular Taktsang Monastery ‘Tiger’s Nest’ hike and end the tour in Paro then fly back to your onward destination after finishing Druk path trekking.

What to Expect

Druk Path Trek is one of the most popular treks in Bhutan. The trek starts from Paro town and you hike all the way finishing finally at Thimphu. En-route witness some great Himalayan panoramas of mountains like Mt. Jhomolhari hiking along high mountain valleys, lake, mountain passes. Also go for the popular hike to the Taktsang Monastery ‘Tiger’s Nest’ (3120m) located outskirts of Paro town.

Itinerary for Druk Path Trek

Day 1Arrival Paro (2,250m)

Arrive Paro flying past the world’s highest mountains and as flight touches down the lush green Paro Valley, a cool, clean and fresh air welcomes the visitor, the first gift of Bhutan. After clearing the customs and visa formalities, transfer to the hotel – a short drive from the airport. Afterwards, you can rest at the hotel or visit the Paro Ringpong Dzong nearby Paro town. Overnight at Hotel in Paro.

Day 2Paro – Trek to Jele Dzong (3,450m)

After breakfast, drive to the National Museum and climb up till the camp is reached; Today’s a short trek. During a clear day one can see the Paro valley and the snow-capped mountains. The campsite is near the old Jele Dzong. Above the camp is Jele-la pass (3,400m) and Jele Dzong (mostly in ruins). There is also a Lhakhang containing a statue of Buddha Sakyamuni. Overnight in Camp at Jele Dzong (3,450m)

Day 3Trek to Jangchulakha (3,780m)

Today the trek starts with a short climb; soon the trail gets leveled in the meadow along the ridge for sometime before walking downhill for a while to climb through thick alpine forest to a saddle (3590m). The trail then follows the ridge with many ups and downs along one side of the ridge to the other before arriving at the camp north east at Jangchulakha (3780m). Jangchulakha is yet another yak pasture. You can spot or hear some Monal pheasants on the way and if the weather is clear you can witness great view of Mt. Jhomolhari and it’s associates. Overnight in Camp at Jangchulakha (3,780m)

Day 4Trek to Jimilangtsho (3,880m)

An unforgettable trip to the high Alpine wonderland of ice and snow is the true highlight of a visit to Switzerland. Globus Local Begin trek with a short steep climb through the Juniper forest starting right from the camp. After this steep climb, the path gets level for a while and it gradually goes up and down through the thicket of dwarf rhododendrons leading to Jangchu La (4180m). The camp at Jimilangtsho Lake (3,880m) is reached after a big drop from here. The name of this lake means Sand Ox Lake, named for a bull that emerged from the lake and joined the cattle of a family that uses the area as a summer grazing ground. The lake is also known for its giant sized trout.
Overnight in Camp at Jimilangtsho (3,880m)Favorite At an amazing 11,332 feet, the JUNGFRAUJOCH is Europe’s highest railway station. Jungfrau’s 13,642-foot summit was first ascended in 1811 and in 1912 the rack railway was opened. There are lots of things to do here: enjoy the ALPINE SENSATION, THE PANORAMA 360° EXPERIENCE, and the ICE PALACE. Also receive your JUNGFRAU PASSPORT as a souvenir to take home with you. The round trip to the “Top of Europe” by MOUNTAIN TRAIN will take most of the day.

Day 5Trek to Simkotra (4,040m)

After breakfast, start the climb walking down the southern end of the lake. Then you need to climb through dwarf rhododendrons till the trail becomes a little flat to arrive at another lake known as Jahny Tsho. Afterwards, the trail becomes much wider as it meanders uphill through the dwarf rhododendrons till the summit nearby the camp. When rhododendrons are in full blossom, it’s a beautiful sight from this place which can be observed while climbing up and looking back at the lake. Overnight in Camp at Simkotra (4,040m)

Day 6Trek to Phajoding (3,750m)

This day involves gradual climb and witness the majestic views of Mt. Gangkar Puensum and host of other peaks, if the weather is clear, You will then slowly descends through juniper trees to a campsite besides the Phajoding Monastery from where Thimphu town is visible at the valley floor. Overnight in Camp at Phajoding (3,750m)

Day 7Phajoding – Thimphu (2,350m)

After breakfast, start-off the morning with short trek to Thimphu valley. You will need to go downhill all the way to Thimphu through a forested area of mostly blue pine. In a leisurely pace, Thimphu is reached upon 3 hours. Check-in hotel in Thimphu. Overnight at Hotel in Thimphu

Day 8Thimphu Sightseeing - Paro (2,250m)

After breakfast, begin sightseeing around Thimphu visiting the prime landmarks like National Memorial Chorten, Institute of Traditional Medicine, Folk Heritage Museum, Textile Museum. Later on go to the Buddha point, one of the biggest statue atop hill provide great view of the Thimphu Valley below. Including other attractions like the Weekly Outdoor Market (Friday, Saturday & Sunday), where you can find fresh fruits & vegetables, rice, grains, chilies including yak tail dusters, butter tea cups, turquoise from Nepal and Tibet and musical instrument. Later on drive back to Paro. Overnight at Hotel in Paro

Day 9In Paro – Hike to Taktsang 'Tiger's Nest' (3,120m)

Early in the morning, drive to the base of the popular Taktsang Monastery ‘Tiger’s Nest’ and hike upwards. For a fit hiker, it will take 2 hours after when you will get dramatic view of the monastery. It’s believed the Guru Padmasambhava came here in a flying tigress and meditated here in the 8th century. Later on visit Kiychu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan. Then back to Paro town for overnight stay. Overnight at Hotel in Paro

Day 10Trip concludes & fly to onwards destination

Bid farewell to the Dragon Kingdom and we shall transfer you to the Paro International Airport to catch your onward flight.
