Kathmandu Lhasa overland tour is the overland journey from the city of Kathmandu all the way to the ancient city of Lhasa. En-route pass thru several remote towns of Tibet like Gyantse, Shigatse and finally to Lhasa. You will have a great sightseeing during the overland journey including the guided city tour of Lhasa visiting Potala palace, Norbulinka, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Market, Sera Monastery.
Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, our representatives will meet you and transfer to your hotel. After check-in hotel if you have a leisure time then you can explore around the city or simply relax at your hotel.

After breakfast proceed with Kathmandu sightseeing tour with your private guide. Visit the cultural, religious and historical monuments which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These includes Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swoyambhunath ‘the Monkey Temple’, Pashupatinath- the sacred temple of Hindus and Boudhanath Stupa- one of the largest Buddhist Stupa in the world. Kathmandu Durbar Square has several age-old temples, palaces, shrines and was the center of power from where king ruled the nation in the earlier period. Swoyambhunath is located atop hill and provides spectacular panorama of the entire Kathmandu Valley. Lots of monkeys reside in it’s forested area thus the name ‘Monkey Temple’. Pashupatinath is the temple of Lord Shiva located at the holy Bagmati River. Closer by is the Boudhanath Stupa. After finishing the tour, return back to hotel.

Early in the morning, drive from Kathmandu to Kerung border (Nepal & Tibet border) passing along the beautiful Nepalese countryside. Complete the necessary formalities at the Nepalese immigration the drive uphill for about an hour or 2 hours uphill hike in case of landslide and reach the Chinese immigration, check-in hotel or continue drive to Kerung.

Continue the drive crossing over Gyatchu La (5220m), the highest pass en-route Lhasa via Lhatse. From this point, the road divides into two intersection and towards the west is the way to Mt. Kailash.

In the morning, visit the Panchen Lama’s Tashilhunpo monastery the further drive to Gyantse. In Gyantse, visit Kumbum stupa and Phalkor Monastery.

The final drive to Lhasa crossing over Karola (5010m), Kambala (4749m) and the colorful Yamdrok Tso Lake as well as the Brahma Putra River ‘Yarlung Tsangpo’ – the lifeline river of Tibet. Soon Lhasa will be reached.

After breakfast, our guide shall meet you at the hotel’s lobby and proceed with sightseeing around Lhasa. First it will take you the Potala palace, the winter palace of Dalai Lama. This most symbolic landmark of Tibet built atop a single hill was by the first foremost King Songtsen Gompa.The most valuable collections here are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and meditation Caveofthe-33rd-great-king-of-Tibet. Then proceed to Norbulinka which means ‘Treasure park’ and considered to be the biggest man-made garden in Tibet. It covers an area of 36,0000 sq. m. Afterwards, transfer back to your hotel.

Todays, sightseeing covers Jokhang temple, Barkhor market, Sera Monastery. Jokhang temple was founded by the 33rd great king of Tibet in 7th century to promote Buddhism in Tibet. Inside the temple is the statue of Lord Buddha at an age of twelve which is perhaps the most idolized object in Tibetan Buddhism. Closer to Jokhang temple is the Barkhor street/market where one can do the kora (a religious circulation of the temple) with pilgrims and locals. Meanwhile, you can hunt for souvenirs at the market. Sera monastery is located 5 km north of Lhasa and it’s setting is one of the beautiful one. Once a community of more than 5,000 monks resided here but later on extinguished by the Chinese. Afterwards, transfer back to your hotel.
