Mani Rimdu is a religious function and series of events of empowerment celebrated at Tengboche, Thame and Chiwang monasteries in the Khumbu region. During the nineteen days of celebration, three days are public festivals. It’s the festival of the mountain community ‘Sherpas’. Celebrated primarily for the welfare of the world, Lamas ‘high priests’ and the local Sherpa community gathers at the monastery for five days and pray and celebrate the festival. The festival is supposed to conquer the demons and virtuous being rewarded. Monks wearing decorated masks and costumes performs a series of ritualistic dances. First days of the festival involves prayers followed by the second day with colorful Lama dancing wearing brocade gown and beautifully painted paper masks. The last day is concluded with some humorous dances and chanting prayers. Hundreds of the local including tourists from the round the world can be seen attending this festival.
Attending this festival, first you fly to Lukla and trek all the way to Namche Bazaar, then finally at Tengboche where the festival is being celebrated. The prime highlight of Mani Rimdu festival trek is to experience the Sherpa culture alongside witnessing some of the tallest mountains of the world including Mt. Everest.

The Tibetan Lunar calendar decides the date of the Mani Rimdu festival which are announced by the head Lama ‘Priest’ at the Tengboche Monastery. At the Tengboche Monastery the festival of Mani Rimdu is celebrated in the 9th Tibetan month which usually falls during the months of October or November full-moon.

Mani Rimdu Festival in Highest Monastery is the festival and cultural trek into the heart of the Everest region. One gets to experience Shepra culture and traditions and witness some of the tallest mountain series in the world including Mt. Everest. The program starts with flight to Lukla from Kathmandu and hike till Tengboche to witness the festival being celebrated at Tengboche Monastery which is attend by the locals including many tourist from round the globe.
Upon arrival at TIA- Tribhuvan International Airport, meet our representatives who shall then transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the time is at leisure/free to explore around the city or relax at your hotel to overcome your jetlag. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.
After breakfast, meet at the hotel lobby including the City Guide and proceed for sightseeing around Kathmandu City. First leg of the tour visits the Kathmandu Durbar Square, a historical and one of the heritage sites with several temples, palaces, shrines. Then proceed towards the popular Buddhist Stupa located on hilltop providing spectacular view of the entire Kathmandu Valley including the surrounding mountains, Swoyambhunath or popularly known as ‘Monkey Temple’. After lunch, visit the holiest Hindu temple of Pashupatinath located at the banks Bagmati River and to nearby another famous Buddhist Stupa, Boudhanath. Afterwards, transfer back to your hotel. The flights to Lukla usually leaves early in the morning, so you need to wake up early then drive towards the airport. It’s the most amazing trans-Himalayan flight of around 40 minutes from Kathmandu to Lukla flying past the mighty mountains and some spectacular landscapes below. The trek starts after breakfast with crossing over suspension bridge on the Dudh Koshi River to Namche Bazaar. En-route comes Sagarmatha National Park which has varied floras and faunas. The trail then descends to Jorsalle village again crossing Dudh Koshi River on suspension bridge. Soon, Namche is reached; the main administrative headquarter of the Khumbu region and the Sherpa capital. Overnight Luxury Lodge in Namche Bazaar.
Today is the acclimatizing day and it’s important to get acclimatize while trekking on high Himalayas. The day is spent acclimatizing in high altitude and after lunch, take a short hike to the Everest View Hotel which provides panoramic views of the Everest region. Afterwards, return back to hotel. After breakfast, start the trek to Tengboche crossing different forests where the trail offers great views of peaks like Everest, Nuptse, AmaDablam, Thamserku, Kwangde. Upon reaching Tengboche, pay a visit to the Tengboche Monastery which is one of the famous monasteries in the region. It is located in at great place with magnificent panorama.
