The Paro Tshechu festival will be held at the Rinpung dzong in Paro, Bhutan. Dear travelers, be a part of this grand Paro Tshechu tour and witness the centuries old festival live. The highlights of the festival celebrates in the Throngdroel ceremony which is held early in the morning of the 5th day. On the last day, the 400 years old Thanka (Tapestry) is unfurled from the top of a ancient building. The local Bhutanese people come to get blessed by touching the tapestry with their head. This is also a time to wear nice clothes, family get together and entertainment. This is one of the biggest Bhutan festivals celebrated since centuries.

Paro Tshechu is the biggest and the most popular festival in Bhutan. Celebrated at the Paro Ringpong Dzong during spring, the festival consists of ceremonial dances and rituals of blessings. One of the fascinating experiences during the Paro tshechu festival is the unfurling of the world’s largest religious scroll, the Paro Thangka, on the last day of the festival. The pageantry of this site is nothing ever witnessed before. Tourists and people in their best attires come to witness the festival. Paro Tshechu celebration is performed by monks, lay monks and citizens. These kinds of festivals are celebrated to recount the history of Bhutan and for Buddhism. Paro Tshechu tour begins with scenic flight over the Himalayas to the lush green Paro then after finishing sightseeing around Thimphu and Punakha, return back to Paro to witness the Paro Tshechu.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive Paro (2,250m) & transfer to Thimphu (2,350m)

Arrive at the Paro International Airport and after clearing your immigration formalities, we shall transfer you to Thimphu which is about an hours’ drive from Paro. Visit several locations in Thimphu like Buddha’s Point, Takin Preserve, Tashichoe Dzong, King’s Memorial Chorten, Centenary Market, the new authentic craft bazaar, Folk heritage museum etc. Overnight at Hotel in Thimphu. (Lunch/Dinner)

Day 2Thimphu to Punakha (1,310m)

After breakfast, drive to Punakha which is about 3 hours drive. Ascending upwards, you will come across Dochula pass at 3,100 meters which commands great panorama of the eastern Himalayas in a clear day. Then descend downwards to Punakha Valley; reaching closer to Punakha, take a hike to Chimi Lhakhang. It’s located amid rice fields in a hilltop and is the temple of ‘Drukpa Kuenley’. The temple is also known as fertility temple and pilgrimage site for childless couples. Later on visit the impressive Punakha Dzong located at the confluence of Pho-chu (male-river) and Mo-chu (female-river. Afterwards, back to hotel. Overnight at Hotel in Punakha. Day 3Punakha - Paro (2,250m)

After early breakfast, drive from Punakha to Paro again re-crossing Dochula pass then further drive to Paro. In Paro visit Rinpung Dzong built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan The southern approach to the Dzong has a traditional roofed cantilever bridge called Nemi Zam. Later on, back to hotel. Overnight at Hotel in Paro. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Day 4In Paro - attend the Paro festival

After breakfast, visit Paro Ringpung Dzong to witness the Paro festival with celebration, and enjoy the dances and other religious rituals. Locals with their best attire attend the festivals including the tourists. Afternoon: Visit Kyichu Lhakhang one of the oldest and most sacred shrines in Bhutan built in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo, the first Tibetan King to spread Buddhism across the Himalayas. Then back to hotel. Overnight at Hotel in Paro. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Day 5In Paro - Hike to Taktsang Monastery 'Tiger's Nest' (3,120m)

Early in the morning, drive to the base of the popular Taktsang Monastery ‘Tiger’s Nest’ and hike upwards. For a fit hiker, it will take 2 hours after when you will get dramatic view of the monastery. It’s believed the Guru Padmasambhava came here in a flying tigress and meditated here in the 8th century. Then back to Paro town for overnight stay. Overnight at Hotel in Paro. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Day 6 Trip concludes & fly to onwards destination

Bid farewell to the Dragon Kingdom and we shall transfer you to the Paro International Airport to catch your onward flight. (Breakfast only)
